BLOW UP San Francisco is ready for some new and exciting DJs, dancing, and fun! Saturday August 7th. Along with A-Trak, the legendary Peanut Butter Wolf will be spinning for all of us at Kelly’s Mission Rock, in the new and improved outdoor area.

As for his history, Chris Manak grew up in the south bay, San Jose to be exact. At about the age of 9 he discovered his love for hip-hop… Wonder how he came across that particular name? His girlfriends younger brother was always so afraid of the “peanut butter wolf monster”. According Manak, the kid was afraid of the monster more than death itself! Funny huh?

Anyway… as he was starting out he and his friend Charizma were soon touring Europe and getting much press. Hitting magazines like Billboard and Urb, and even meeting with legends Sway and King Tech of the Wake Up Show. They also performed with artists such as House of Pain, The Pharcyde, and Nas!! Peanut Butter Wolf successfully went on to create the “Peanut Butter Breaks” which led him to other DJ’s like Rob Swift and Q-bert.

In 1996, he founded Stones Throw Records. Which is now the home of several amazing artists. Dam-Funk, the late J Dilla, J Rocc, Quasimoto, Madvillain, and Mayer Hawthorne just to name a few. These days Peanut Butter Wolf is taking a break from producing and keeps it moving with his DJ sets AND even deejaying music videos. Traveling all over the world, and helping his record label grow even stronger.

Saturday August 7th – Kelly’s Mission Rock

A-Trak. He is not your average DJ. In fact, he’s not just a DJ, but this producer/turntablist is just as good as they come. You may know him to be the younger brother to Dave 1 of the band Chromeo. Yes, the musical talent must be in the blood. Think of A-Trak’s work today, and you’ll probably think of his ability to just totally flip a track with his own remix. Recall all the club bangers and jams that you love to hear at a dance party. A-Trak has contributed to the industry not just for the whole Electro/Dance scene, but to the Hip-Hop community as well. After all, his roots do run from the Hip-Hop era.

I’m sure his credibility needs no discussion because the man’s resume is simply…incredible. Born in Montreal but based out of New York, A-trak was the first to win the three major DJ competition titles. Those titles being of course DMC, ITF, and Vestax. Not to mention he was the youngest contestant ever to win the DMC World Championship at the age of 15! I know, makes you wonder when the hell he started spinning in the first place. And…what was I doing at 15??

Around 2004, Kanye West hired A-Trak to be his personal tour DJ. Kanye even had him at his side for his performances at several MTV award ceremonies and even at the Grammy Awards. A-Trak then went on to help Kanye with scratches on his albums “Late Registration” and “Graduation”. Ever wonder how Kanye ever came about sampling Daft Punk? Guess who was the influence with that…..

A-Trak has worked with tons of great artists. From Kid Sister to Kid Cudi, which by the way had their hit single Day n Night released under A-Trak’s record label Fool’s Gold. In 2009 he collaborated with another legend in the game Armand Van Helden to create some of the best disco house you’ve heard!! You know the two as, Duck Sauce. Instantly creating hits such as “aNYway” and “Barbra Streisand”. Recently he has even been performing live shows with Travis Barker filling in for their dear friend, the late DJ AM.

This guy has been to every massive event that you have gone to. Audiotistic, Electric Daisy Carnival, whatever… Now he’s coming to join the Blow Up team and give us an amazing show with Fool’s Gold alongside Stones Throw. If you aren’t already blown away by him, come check him out on August 7th along with other great artists.

A-Trak is known for his ability to fuse electronic music with rap. No matter how ridiculous the lyrics are, he can turn it into one of your favorite songs just like that. Just like his mixtapes entitled “Dirty South Dance”. With A-Trak, you’re in for more than you expect. So here are some goodies to get yourself pumped up.

What a crazy summer it’s been already!!! Things have been totally wild at the BLOW UP Summer Concert Series. We’ve partied with 1000+ people at every event and things are running smoother and smoother with each new party. Here’s the news.

1. Because everyone all bought their Blow Up w/ Steve Aoki tickets so fast, there has been a few mix ups we are working on, so will be sorting that all out over the next 2 or 3 days, so hold tight.

2. Once we do that, we will know exactly how many more tickets we can make available, it won’t be many, but we will likely have around 20-30 more tickets we can release sometime next week.

3. We’re going to be announcing the info about the Aoki tickets via our newsletter: if you’re not on it you can sign up here

4. We added a crazy new BLOW UP event on Saturday August 7th (the weekend before the Steve Aoki gig) – A-TRAK, Peanut Butter Wolf, + more, check the Facebook event here to see the full amazing line up.

5. Tickets for the A-TRAK party will be release later today (hopefully), if not, tomorrow morning.

6. We are going to start opening the club one hour early for advance ticket holders only. So now instead of opening at 10 and trying to rush everyone in at once, we will start letting advance ticket holders in at 9pm.

7. With the help of our amazing team, we put together these parties, and we put care and love into every element: Ava makes the flyers, I book the djs, we xerox the flyers, make these blog posts, we run the advanced tickets, we personally answer our emails, etc etc. We do this because we love the type of party that BLOW UP is: fun, sexy, nice people…

As the party gets bigger we NEED all your help to keep it that way!!! Please spread the love, spread the word, invite only people that understand what we do, and if some people don’t understand, teach them. THANK YOU!

Between everyone who got their Aoki tickets early by attending the 5 Year anniversary (which was a great idea) and everyone who got on it early, the Advanced tickets have sold out!

…things got a little crazy.

My absolute favorite moment comes at 1:59 because no matter what, nothing in your lifetime ever comes close to substituting that particular feeling.

We want this to be an intimate experience – just like last time. So were are making these special advanced tickets guarantee entry into the main room. No stadium, no festival, no extravagance. Just you + BLOW UP + Steve Aoki.
